The Rig / 2:1 jib sheet

When sailing in a fresh breeze sufficient to reef the mainsail, my wife can find it difficult to sheet in the jib adequately. As an experiment I decided to rig up a 2:1 jib sheet arrangement and it certainly seems to work well. Two blocks, one for each side, are attached to the jib clew by a snapshackle. One end of each jib sheet is tied off to a redundant fairlead, led up to and through the block on the jib and returned to the cockpit as normal, in much the same arrangement seen in some racing dinghies. The double block on the jib clew passes across our second forestay easily enough when tacking, the only downside is in light winds the windward sheet might need active easing because of the increased drag. Although experimental initially, it works very well and I think we will keep this set up.

I like this thread  ;) because once again we go - 7 days Ijsselmeer, this time counterclockwise, but again starting from Koudum.
After it didn't work out in the last years maybe this time - I would be happy about more WB's on the water there.  8)

Our motor is the 1kw Evo Plus. It?s very torquey and will push us along at 4.5 knots for 75 mins but at 1/3 power we?ve had more than 9nm from one battery across Falmouth Bay. With planning and care the range from two batteries is sufficient. Our petrol outboards were quite idiosyncratic to say the least. We know the electric motor will start first time every time.

Epropulsion comes our best in tests for power and quiet running. I have had a 1.0 Spirit for 3 yrs. not that you'd want to drop the removable battery but reassuring to know it floats.

When setting up the mast, there was always chipping at the edges at the base of the mast due to slight canting. This problem has now been eliminated by two bronze plates attached to the sides.

Some things take time, but now the time has come.  ;D

The winter work is finished and tomorrow the little one goes back on the water. The bulwark, cockpit seats, bulkhead and many other wooden parts are shining in new splendour, the port side locker has been sealed off from the rest of the interior to store the fuel tank. While the woodwork was simply done again after 7 years, the locker was overdue. Especially when travelling on the North Sea and Baltic Sea, the light petrol fumes inside the boat were very annoying, especially at night.
Let's see if I can still sail...

The Torqeedo CS 1103 is an excellent motor and has the advantage of a removable tiller. This frees up space in the cockpit when used with the optional remote control which has the same readout and GPS system as on the tiller. Two WBs on Coniston Water have Torqeedos,  I have nothing but praise for ours as it is nearly silent, there are no fumes and it is light to carry. If I was on a tidal estuary I might be a little concerned about power and range compared with a petrol outboard, I think Gerards idea of a second battery is very sensible.

Hi,  I'm a bit late to the party but interested in getting an electric outboard for WB62.

Gerald, I'm a bit confused as to which Epropulsion you have.  Is it the 'Spirit 1.0 EVO' which has the recharging ability but appears to be 1kW only.  Is this really powerful enough for close offshore and tides, etc.?  Or have you used on inland waters only?  PS I liked the Youtube on Conniston.

Any others who have some thoughts, please don't hesitate to advise/comment!
