The Rig / Re: Wanted: Shroud plates
June 11, 2019, 10:27:33 PM
Hello John ,
Can I ask about your boat ? Do you have a forestay direct to the bow ? That looks safe, strong and sensible... As far as I know mine runs with the jib-stay to the outer end of the bowsprit , which is perhaps normal , but running to the bow would appear to add a fixing point and spread both the load and the risk . Is it normal or your own mod ?
Thanks

Thanks , yes , I think I'm overthinking it :-)

That makes sense , thanks .
They have been moved to the spares pile ...

Am sceptical that it's possible to launch or recover a WB from a breakback trailer and keep the hubs dry , but will keep thinking ... am playing with the idea of building a telescopic rear trailer extension, for use only on the slipway (pushes forward for travel ) ...

Thanks

Hi Hello .

I've had my WB for a couple of years but not used her much, hoping to change that this year ....

I've towed and launched happily but have been thinking about improving launching if I can .

I have a Bradley Rapid , break back (non rollercoaster cradle) trailer , nice big 13" tyres and am fitting a "launch winch" to help her back to the tipping point .

I've just been studying the rollers at the rear and think they are actually in the way of the bulge plates !! Which makes me suspect I've struggled with them before , the previous owner had her lifted in/out so may not even have launched from the trailer at all .

I can see the sense of help in the bow align, but with the WB about 4' up the trailer (during recovery) I suspect the bulge plates can't fail to hit the roller axles ...

I'd be happy to hear thought...

Thanks

The Hull / Water below cabin floor
April 22, 2019, 10:09:15 PM
Hello .

I have spent a happy day cleaning and investigating my Winkle Brig , after she's been standing for nearly two years . She's been on a trailer , listing slightly to port and forward , hoping water would run away from the tabernacle, although covered with polythene too ..

No big surprise, some water has got in , port cabin cushions are wet and the port side trinket lockers in the cabin seats hold water .  Bilge pump (although working) is dry , the intake hise is dry ... . So no water getting back there , even with bow raised .

There's definitely water under the cabin floor though , I can hear it as the floor moves under my weight .... I opened one of the small bunged holes (under the porta potti) and there's a 40mm (or so) hole in the foam, that fills with water ... (bow raised to aid draining to bilges at stern) . Empty that with a sponge and it refills very slowly ...

All seems a bit odd !! Seems like there's water trapped on top of the foam ?!?! Under the floor ...

Forward end of cabin floor is fine , just aft end ...

Not sure if this is a problem or not really ?!?!? Wouldn't like it to freeze though ...

Hoping someone might have come across this before .

Many Thanks
Rolly
