Hi Gerold
Hope you had a good time last weekend at the Duemmer lake.
I took a look around on Google maps and noticed there are quite a few places to sail from. Which do you use ?

I sail from here :

but seems conditions will be poor until next Monday  :(

Thanks for input Martin and David.
I think the idea occurred when I noticed the boom seemed to pull up quite high especially when in front of a biggish wind. However, operating with wooden components for the first time, I was a bit wary about the sort of leverage a kicker would exert. It seems the main sheet horse might be the gentler way to start as I've been using mine with the central mainsheet eye it had.
Fine day out last Mon. More this weekend I hope.
Thanks again both .

Thanks David. I had thought it would need a fairly hefty metal strap round three sides of the tabernacle but was still not sure if that would hold. Do you know how your friends was fixed ?
In the mean time I noticed the youtube of Mary-Ellan(?) on Kielder showed a kicking strap and I see the guy who was sailing it every month or so so I'll check out how he got on.
Thanks again to David and I'm still open to more experience "out there"

I can only find a few (4?)  refs to using a kicking strap on a Winklebrig here.
I'd be interested to hear more ideas / comments on it's efficacy on a gaff sail .... especially from anyone who's tried both with and without.
Mine has wooden mast, tabernacle and boom with a high peak sail.

Oh dear ! Gerold !
I've not been to the forum for a while ... during which time you have moved from the heights of my admiration into the unreachable stratosphere :o

My best efforts over the winter have been re-siting some cleats, stripping and resealing one bulwark and some other little bits I've forgotten :(   .......... then the sun came out so I fixed it all together again and went sailing  .. The other bulwark got a quick holding coat and will have to wait till next winter to get stripped :)
I suppose my only excuse is that my boat winters under a cover outside so the foul weather kept me off much of the time. Decent weather's been a long time coming too so I've only sailed 5 days so far.

That tabernacle of yours looks huge in the pics but magnificent !  I'll be very interested to see pics when it's in place .. and better still , in use !
All the best

Hi Gerold

I don't have any immediate answer to your last question but I couldn't see any responses to any of your posts. Maybe there are some replies and I've not yet figured how this site works  as I've only used it a bit but I thought I'd say "hi" anyway  :)

Hope you keep posting progress reports and pics so I can learn more about the boat I acquired 12 months ago. I did pull off some of the worst-state woodwork  last winter and applied numerous layers of varnish but , as the bulwarks were in reasonable condition (and the sun came out) , I put it back together and spent the rest of year sailing it  :D

I'll be bringing it home soon and will probably attack the bulwarks, among other things, this winter.

Look forward to watching WB120s  restoration.

Regards
Ken

(couldn't make hyperlink work)

PS Does this mean the RYA had not persuaded everyone to wear buoyancy of some sort in 1989 ?

Miscellaneous / 2(U)B or not 2(U)B ?

A quick search of the forum didn't point me to any "HB"s.
This boat is labeled in adverts as a Winkle Brig. Can anyone educate me as to the "H" ?
Nice wooden blocks whatever it is :)
