The Hull / coach roof vents
June 06, 2014, 10:40:03 PM
I have noticed that some WB's mine included have vents in the coach roof, was this a later upgrade, or did some owner just cut holes in them? I have taken the old ones on mine out, and have stripped the wooden spacers/supports off as well, as they were badly cracked, and damaged beyond repair. The problem I now have, is trying to find a suitable replacement that will take the shape of the coach roof. I love the Vetus Mushroom Vents, but some how I don't think they will work. http://www.gaelforcemarine.co.uk/38031/Vetus-Mushroom-Ventilators.html?referrer=FROOGLE&gclid=CKiWsIGb5r4CFSGWtAodBkQAGA.

Hi Paul, thanks for the offer, but l'm in Surrey, I'd much rather be on the coast of Somerset, Devon or Cornwall. I think l am going to bite the bullet and buy a new hand brake, as the one l have at the moment is buggered beyond repair.

Thanks Rick, the push button release on the handle works, it's the little lever that engages the ratchet bit that doesn't work, it seems that it's not going far enough into the grooves, so it doesn't hold anything. £70.00 did give me a slight heart murmur as well.

Hi all. I need to replace the trailer hand brake, but have no idea what I am looking at, I have had a look on the net, and have seen dozens of different styles and types of hand brake. Can someone please tell me the correct one for my trailer. The hand brake does not engage at all, it gets tight but does not hold on the ratchet. (Is it the Bradley 3331 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BRADLEY-KIT-3331-REPLACEMENT-HANDBRAKE-/121183770190) I am eventually going to have to have all the brakes services anyway, as I think only one of the left hand side is actually working, but that's for another day.

I might get a quote from my local black smith, and see what he says.

I did think about stainless as l was stripping the paint off, besides being virtually indestructable, wont stainless be hugely expensive?

I have just removed the mast tabernacle, was going to start stripping it for new varnish etc, bit on seeing the condition of it, it look like it needs to be rebuilt from scratch. What are the thoughts on this? What would the best wood be to replace it?

Excellent thank you, I had a sneaky feeling it had something to do with masts or booms, I just had the location wrong.

What is this strange thing for, l found it hidden in the depths of the boat. I am guessing it is for the boom, and the gaff to rest on when the mast is down, and somehow ties onto the coachroof.

The Hull / Re: Bulwarks

I have just finished getting all the muck and dirt of the SB bulwarks, and they actually look quite good, so we have decided to leave them natural.

I would like to leave them natural again, they are painted at the moment, but they are not in fantastic condition anyway, as some parts are cracked or damaged.

The previous owner of Liberte, (now Bebop-A-Lulu) can't find the tiller, are they a particular size and shape? Or can l buy/make one to fit?
Thanks

I have just started removing the bulwarks (starboard side off) and want to repaint them, but can't quite figure out what kind of wood they are made of, it looks like teak. ( They could be mahogany, but they both look the same to me.)
What is the best way to seal teak, being that is naturally oily, I have heard that aluminium primer should be used as water-based will let the oils will bleed through.
I would like to replace them completely with new marine ply, but I can't seem to find anything that is nearly 10 foot long.
Are there any photo's/diagrams of the fuel pipe spacer mod for the porthole spacing, I really don't fancy putting a tube of sikaflex on each porthole.
