Miscellaneous / WB 10 is sadly for sale!

Brig no 10 for sale  -having been on the hard for the last 4 + years. Located in Kent UK.
Been kept under loose cover ( renewed each year) , however she needs a bit of TLC ( rubbing strakes and gunwhales need varnish ) but the hull is very good and the boat very dry even without the cover

Running rigging is all new. Comes with 4HP mariner 2 stroke and braked roller coaster trailer. Both could do with a service but the trailer brakes work and the tyres  are serviceable .
Mainsail and Jib were new prior to purchase and hardly used
Interior cushions all original and in good condition.

Looking for ?3500 but open to discussion  Email me  for photos or call  Andy on 07450814887.

Congratulations Ross,

When I bought WB10 I had a similar journey ( Berkshire to E. Kent). I did  much as Martin has suggested to reduce the overhang but would advise to try and brace the boom crutch with good fore and aft strapping or bracing.  Otherwise don't use the boom crutch but the mast will flex slightly as it cantilever from the coach roof.  I didn't and  found even with the mast/jib well secured, there was a tendency for the crutch to rotate and slip out from under the mast.

Fortunately I didn't lose anything and had stopped before it all flopped around too much.  After bracing the crutch itself  as well as lashing down the mast, it all towed quite happily without any drama.  It is worth lashing the bow winch eyebolt as Martin suggests as I also found that the winch strap would also loosen a little under fore/aft movement.

regards

The Rig / Re: Mast security

Hi, Martin,
Thanks for the prompt response.    I have your book( which is excellent by the way) and the stay sail is definitely on the   to do list.  I have the wooden tabernacle so wasn't going to risk any more load on it - what I was thinking of was a removable wooden stop fixed to the foredeck to prevent  the base of the mast kicking forwards - fixed like the cleat for the removable bowsprit.

That way I could add a stiffening batten to the underside of the foredeck to help taking the strut load from the shear stop back into the stem, rather than just using the foredeck itself.

It seems to make  sense but I could be fooling myself, so if any of the more experienced members can see an obvious flaw, please let me know.

The Rig / Mast security

As a newbie brig owner I have  manages to rig up ok but have seen the posts about using a short chain to stop the mast falling back. I,m using the ' David Cawston method' of a running forestay but did have an issue after raising and lowering half a dozen times ( my error I'm afraid) and and would like the security of a fail safe on the mast.

I had thought of a removable shear stop on the foredeck but if someone knows a better method, any assistance would be appreciated.
