The Rig / Bowsprit collar
March 23, 2022, 11:21:55 PM
While re-assembling the boat today I noticed the holes for the rigging are off centre .. one forward and one aft. Any ideas why and which would be best for the bob stay and which for the front stay ?

The Hull / Long Wood
April 05, 2018, 10:11:57 AM
A short bit from a long story goes :
I can't find anyone who can provide 5.05m of hardwood strip to replace my rubbing strakes. I've spent ages failing to persuade any woodyard to produce either two strips at 33x16mm section or one about 33x38mm for me to split. The originals are complete so I'm trying to avoid a scarf. I've been pretty open about which wood  .... "iroko or similar"  .. but still no joy.  :(

Ideas welcome

Sailing / Winklebrig Race
April 06, 2017, 10:17:52 AM
I hear there's another WB (22) coming to live at Kielder Water but my winter fettling's been delayed so I might not be first on the water  >:(

Any more WB's interested in swelling the Kielder WB floatilla for shorter or longer periods let me know as there are a variety of ways of accessing the water for brief or extended stays.

Rick has kindly just added some pics of WB91  wandering around Kielder last year (first 7 and last 6 in the gallery)

Must go and do the last varnish coat then I can start putting the boat back together.

I can only find a few (4?)  refs to using a kicking strap on a Winklebrig here.
I'd be interested to hear more ideas / comments on it's efficacy on a gaff sail .... especially from anyone who's tried both with and without.
Mine has wooden mast, tabernacle and boom with a high peak sail.

(couldn't make hyperlink work)

PS Does this mean the RYA had not persuaded everyone to wear buoyancy of some sort in 1989 ?

Miscellaneous / 2(U)B or not 2(U)B ?

A quick search of the forum didn't point me to any "HB"s.
This boat is labeled in adverts as a Winkle Brig. Can anyone educate me as to the "H" ?
Nice wooden blocks whatever it is :)
