Title: Solent Area - Launch Sites?
Post by: Rick on April 15, 2014, 09:18:45 AM
Hi - I've recently moved house to nearish Southampton and I'm looking for a good launch site, ideally with a yard nearby. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Rick

Hi Rick, We'll done on getting the forum up and running.

Just so happens I'm looking for the same, though I'm looking for a club and mooring rather than to trail and launch.  I bought WB112 last year but for various reasons I've not yet had a chance to sail her. Expecting that to change in the next few weeks!

Ealing Quay (Eling Mill nr Totton) is probably nearest for you.
Car parking for 25 cars. Boat Parking Within Car Park. Nearest Clubs Eling Sailing Club. Site is next to the Anchor pub and parking can be problem apparently, especially in the summer. Eling Sailing Club is on the other side of the pub and is a friendly club. Concrete wharf next to the slipway to tie up to while parking the car.

At the other end of Southampton Water is Ashlett Creek.
Ramp Is 1/2 tidal,  Large trailer needs a car but I think it's free to launch.  Seems popular with the like of Drascombe sailors.
Car parking 30 spaces. Boat parking within car park. Toilets, pub.
Great location for access to the Solent.  Ashlett SC is on the creek and again seem a very friendly bunch.

http://www.boatlaunch.co.uk is a pretty good site for more info about launch sites around Southampton Water and further afield.

http://www.troppo.co.uk/tightwad/tightwad.htm has plenty of good local knowledge.

Many thanks Simon, I'll have a tour around to have a look - but it's going to take some time to get Minim (WB7) up to scratch for launching.
Best of luck with WB112 - hope to see you on the Solent/Poole etc
