The accompanying text should have read that, given the thread on 'Winklebrigs in Unusual Places', we need a thread on 'Unusual Winklebrigs'. Martin Cartwright's much modified Winkle (sic) should be in it - but what of Esmeralda, the steam driven Winklebrig launch of Holyhead 2011 Old Gaffers' Festival, and Beale Park. Any other offerings?
And apologies for taking three attempts to get this right. All I had to do is follow Julian's instructions for posting images properly - doh!

Martin Cartwright's much modified 'Winkle' has to be in it (dear me, Martin, you should consider changing that name ...), and how about Esmeralda, a steam driven Winklebrig launch. New to me at Holyhead Old Gaffers' meeting, but has also appeared at Beale Park I understand. Any other 'unusual Winklebrigs' around?

Hi, I just discovered the forum this week and already I have had great support (see 'Hull' threads).
Eventually found a photo of Stella:

Here she is in 2005 at Coleraine marina
Ready for loading stores for an overnight adventure for my son and his friend.
We anchored overnight in Dougan's Bay at the back of Portstewart Strand, half mile inside the barmouth.
I recall waking very early to find we had drifted some way into the dredged channel
- I'd laid too much scope for the anchor.
Thank goodness the regular scrap-metal coaster wasn't due! Lesson learned:
Tides!!! lay kedge anchor at stern, lie fore-aft well outside the channel!
Happy Winkle Brig grins to everyone!

Cheers, Vip! I think this feeling of being the new girl at school is going to last a wee while - but, boy-o-boy am I going to enjoy it! I wish you well with yours. I am sure this Forum is the very best and probably the safest place for us to glean as much info as possible.
This morning when I was out shopping, I found that the car seemed to be on "autopilot" and heading for the Boatyard all on her own, just so I could doublecheck Mudlark was still there and it wasn't just a dream! There she was, tucked up, nice and safe. Wonderful!
I am sure we'll find - and have - YEARS of enjoyment. Enjoy!

Hi Pam

Glad that you've found your boat. I've been reading your posts on this forum while we were looking for our WB. Good to hear of another new owner.

I know there is at least one other person looking out for a Winkle brig - and there is another for sale in the north of the country, so who knows, there might be a third joining us soon.

Thanks for the Best Wishes Ben, - and I'm now getting my head around the fact that the miracle HAS occurred. Coo! I just can't believe it.
So, let the Big Adventure begin. I can't wait to get my hands on her; my brain around her bits 'n pieces and..... well, YIPPPPPPPPPPPPEEEEE!

Hello everyone.

I'm sad to say I am no longer owner of Mudlark. We had a lovely time and some great wee adventures sailing her and also enjoyed meeting other winkle brig sailors!

However, I'm very pleased to say that she has been bought by Pam Freeman who we send our very best wishes too and hope that she enjoys Mudlark as much as we have.

Fair winds to you all.

Ben.

Thanks Adrian

We saw Peggoty while we were picking Annie Elizabeth up. Shame we had to separate the pair.

I have a photo form the forums that you took of the two boats together. If you have any others of Annie Elizabeth I would be really chuffed to see them.

We'll be sorry to lose our Ullswater neighbour - Annie Elisabeth was moored right behind Peggoty - but good luck, and enjoy your sailing Vip!

Ullswater certainly looked gorgeous. Unfortunately we didn't have the time to take a few days there and try the boat out.

Spent a good few hours today getting the hang of the rigging - on the safety of the trailer, though to the amusement of a lot of neighbours.

Also took the opportunity to give her a bit of a clean in preparation for the water in a couple of weeks time.

Plenty of ropes to play with on a WB. Our very first launch with Markie, back in 1987, was on Ullswater from the free slipway on the east shore at Howtown. Markie was brand new, never been rigged (we did not have a dry run at home). It took us 4 hours to rig and launch! People were launching, going out for a few hours, returning, pulling out and we were still there, trying to interpret Eric's rigging drawings. Never having sailed a gaff rigger before added to the confusion. After 24 years of ownership and a few mods, things are a little quicker!

Picked up Annie Elizabeth from Ullswater marine in the lake district yesterday and after a long day of 9 hours driving, she is happily parked up in her new home near Norwich.

I must thank Mr Grundy of Ullswater marine. We are novice boat buyers and first time boat trailers - he made the whole process very straightforward.

Looking forward to a relaxed day of playing with bits of rope and taking a few photos.

Thanks Phil - found those on google maps. Oulton broad is a little far for where I'm going to be based - though it might work when we have the whole week on the water.

I don't really mind paying a reasonable sum for launching to be honest - particularly if the cash is going to a reliable boat yard. I guess I'll be doing a lot of exploring later on this month.
