I spend some downtime in the New Year plundering the website to compile a short book on the Winkle Brig. Julian has kindly agreed to put a link on the homepage for anyone who is interested in buying a copy. The book is published on a 'print on demand' basis (ie each copy ordered is printed and sent out on a one-off basis) so I can update it at any time if anyone feels I have made any howlers. Do let me know your thoughts and I can include them in a second edition.

Les Miserables:- In the opening sequence, can anyone tell me why the 19th century Frenchmen are trying to pull a galleon into an almost empty dry dock rather than simply waiting for the tide to rise and float her in???

The film started badly for me and got worse.

Probably a bit early for me, but will try and make it if I can. If not, I am certainly going to try and join the English Raid although probably not as a participant:-

As always the Trail Sail Association will be visiting the broads over the Easter weekend and will probably be using the northern rivers and broads. Weather permitting (I am becoming a wimp in my old age) Markie WB15 will be attending and all WBs are most welcome. Our usual slipway is at the Swallowtail Boatyard near Womack Water but other TSA members use the slip at Martham. Do join us if you can.

Thanks Julian/Eric and not that long to go. Disappointed with this years London Boat Show. Had a good look at the Cornish Shrimper on display and realised just how lucky Winkle Brig owners are!

Discussion on another thread about Charles Stock's book 'Sailing just for fun' made me think about other sailing books. I can recommend the following. Anyone like to add their favourites?
'The Magic of the Swatchways' - Maurice Griffiths
'Swatchways and little ships' - Maurice Griffiths
'Shrimpy' - (A record round the world voyage in an 18 ft yacht!).
And of course, everyone's all time favourite - and mine- 'The Riddle of the Sands' Erskine Childers.

Just when I thought I was home and dry with the cooker, the threads stripped from the bottom of the burners, where the cylinders screw in. So after several trips to camping shops to look at cookers, I purchased on-line, for about £22, a Campingaz Duo Plus stove and took the burners from this and mounted them in the EpiTwin chassis, so easy to do. With a bit of clever bodging, using the original on/off knobs and part of the brass rods that connect the knobs to the burners, I now have a fully functional, with more powerful burners, cooker that looks just the same as the original, with the added advantage of having cylinders that connect with the quick click C470 cylinders. All ready for our Easter cruise on the Norfolk Broads with the TSA, only the cruise has been called off as the forecast for Easter is so lousy. Roll on a bit of proper spring/summer weather.

Eventually managed to find the necessary info from an Australian website http://www.bushwalking.org.au/FAQ/FAQ_GasStoves.htm So it is a BS011 in Viton rubber that I need and I have ordered 20 which works out at about 25p each. So if anyone else needs one or two (worth keeping as spares just in case), let me know and I can put some in the post FOC.
Warning, I found that the cylinders would lose gas if left connected to the stove, so now they are disconnected/unscrewed a bit if they are to be left for some time. Bilges full of butane/propane is not nice.

Hi everyone,
I have been having problems with my original 25 year old (as supplied by Eric) Epi Twin gas cooker and getting cylinders to screw on correctly which I think is due to the use of incorrect little 'O' rings, the ones located in the cooker that seal up against the top of the small threaded valve on the cylinders. Could anyone give me the correct OD (or ID) and thickness of the 'O' ring. Thanks.

Hi Paul,
I chose Salcombe as Kingsbridge is only accessible 2.5 hrs either side of high water. I did however sail up to Kingsbridge for lunch.
The Salcombe slipway is at Batson Creek with boat/vehicle cark park and a secure trailer compound. The area has night security. Car park charges are high and unless you pay up front you have to keep returning to feed the meter. Free parking on the roads away from the centre. My visit was for 4 days and the harbour dues, car park and trailer storage came to £63. The Harbour Master did not charge me extra for mooring - one night on the hook and two nights on a visitors buoy at the top end of Southpool Creek. Water taxi available to take you ashore. At the top of this creek is the village of Southpool with a great pub to visit - watch the tide. Salcombe town is expensive to eat but the YC is good value plus showers. More info on boatlaunch.co.uk or the LA's website Southams.gov.uk/harbour dues
The boatpark attendant is really helpful. Avoid the main holiday season as it gets very busy. On entering the town don't miss the sign to the boatpark - you will end up in narrow one way streets. WB97 Bumble Bee is on her residents mooring at the start of Batson Creek.
A lovely estuary and away from the hub a quiet backwater.

Hi Mike, I am keen to visit the Salcombe estuary. Would you mind sharing details of where you launched and then parked your car and trailer with approx cost. Kingsbridge looks best bet.
